Fernando Sor
Fernando Sor (katalanska: Josep Ferran Sorts i Muntades), döpt 14 februari inom Barcelona, död 10 juni i Paris, var enstaka betydande spansk utövare samt tonsättare inom klassisk gitarrmusik.
Sor erhöll sin musikaliska uppfostran inom klostret Montserrat. Han skrev för en italiensktoperasällskap operan Telemacco, likt framfördes tillsammans med bifall. Efter kriget vid pyreneiska halvön, i vilket han deltog som kapten, reste denne till Paris, där han blev personligen bekant tillsammans med Méhul, Berton och Cherubini. Sor grundlade i London sitt rykte som gitarrist och komponerade en mängd italienska arietter samt operan La Foire de Smyrna med mera. Han gjorde en konsertresa till Ryssland, varefter denne återvände mot London. Sor skrev var feerioperan La belle Arsene. Han utgav utom ovannämnda kompositioner ett gitarrskola samt gitarrmusik.
